About W9JAM
I’m Jeremiah, W9JAM. I wanted to take this chance to introduce myself and tell you about W9JAM. The Ham Radio op and Diabetic.
Where to start…. well, is all started on May of 1982……. sorry wrong story.
Back in 2009 I was a truck driver and I had teamed up with my friend Kevin, W7XF. He got me involved with HAM radio, and the following year I upgraded to my General. Since then I’ve had multiple types of HF radios. A Yaesu 817, Yaesu Ft-710 AESS, ICOM IC-7000, and a Xiegu G-90. Even though I have lost contact with Kevin, W7XF, I’m hopeful I’ll hear him on the air.
Ham Radio Work
I started helping one of my best friends, Andy, KC9SKV, with DMR radios back in 2016, and since then I’ve been helping people with their radios. Currently I work for BridgeCom Systems LLC., in Customer Service and Tech Support. I started in November of 2022. It’s been a fun ride so far. Learning a lot about programming codeplugs, troubleshooting, and training to improve my customer service skills.
My current radio setup includes, AnyTone 578, AnyTone 878, Yaesu FT-710 AESS, ICOM IC-7000, and last but not least my Xiegu G-90. I will upload pictures once I get my radio area setup in my new home. Anyone in Massachusetts want to swing by and help me put up an antenna? LOL.
Diabetes and Me
When I was driving a truck back 2009, I failed my CDL Physical. My blood sugar was too high! I panicked. My whole world seemed like it was crashing down. I know for some that seems like something small, but when your livelihood is on the verge of collapse, you freak. Luckly I was able to find a doctor who was able to help me get my blood sugars under control for a while. However, in 2016, it was determined that I had to go on insulin. At that time, it was a royal pain in the backside to get through the approval process for insulin use while driving a truck.
